I have been a police officer for seven years, and as an academic graduate I have graduated in advertising since ten years ago.
I heard the question many times: "What does a communication professional do in a military institution?" Therefore, I contest saying that there are several functions in the police, in fact, communication is a strategic function in public security institutions.
For me and for everyone, I trust that being a police officer was not my childhood death, but today I am proud to be a police officer. I understand the importance of being a police-communicator and I also wordpress web design agency understand that public social communication is a citizenship tool. I see that it is very important that communication professionals work as police officers. It's a way to humanize police relations with society.
At the same time I never stopped studying, I specialized in marketing, communication and media in the public sector, then I became a master in communication, the whole process continued working in the military police of my province, without licenses to study.
Currently, I'm pursuing a doctorate in Human Rights and I'm still listening to people: "What's a police officer studying human rights? There's nothing to see!". So I reply: Much to see!
Even in the past, the police are an institution that guarantees fundamental human rights for the population (life, freedom, security and democracy are examples). Without public security, there would probably be more deaths, less freedom and more violence. There is also violence and death caused by the police and there are police officers who do not respect human rights, but the vast majority of police officers work to guarantee the fundamental rights of a society.
In my opinion, the police are a reflection of the society that belongs to it, because it is created by human beings in a social and cultural context. In short, there may be racist, sexist, homophobic people and various types of preconceptions, however, there is also space for anti-racist, feminist, fight for homosexual and LGBTQI+ causes.
In conclusion, trying to bring studies on human rights to the police and bringing the reality of the police to studies on human rights is fascinating and has everything you see. They look like oppositions, but they are close and complementary.
Paraphrasing a Dutch philosopher called Spinoza, one can decide that the right without action is a mere abstraction. So, reflecting on my profession, military police, combined with my position as a public social communicator and also researcher in Human Rights, I can decide that more than abstraction, I, with a lot of pride, take actions in citizenship and human rights every day of work and studio. In a cycle that feeds itself, it sometimes contradicts itself, but mainly it makes me act.
