Super Smash Brothers Brawl is the third installment in the widely popular Smash Brothers fighting game that originated on the Nintendo 64 back in 1999. The main point of the game? The beat the crap outta your opponent and send them flying off the stage. Use items, pokemon, and your players special moves to raise up their damage counter. Then, WHAM!! Hit em hard or hit them with a final smash.
Gameplay: The game play is very simple. I love nintendo for this. Anyone can pick up the game and start playing. You are allowed to use either the Wii-mote on its side, Wii-mote with numchuck, Wii-mote with classic controller, or the gamecube controller. Whichever you use is your preference. There are two attack buttons. One is for basic and smash attacks, the other is for special moves of the character you chose. Depending on what position the control stick is in, you do different moves. I was so happy that they didn't change the controls. Now when you start the game you can either go to multiplayer mode, single player mode, go to the vault where there is a plethora of extra stuff, or change setting in the options. With over 40 characters and stages this was a great game. Still is lol My rating 10/10.
Game modes: Heres where i will go through each of the modes.
First is Single player mode. This is where Nintendo shined the most in this game. Here you can play the classic one player mode, where you fight computers until you reach the master hand. Basic stuff from the last two games. Next comes the supped up adventure mode, The Subspace Emissary. Here you go through an amazing story mode. You go through side scrolling levels, fighting through Robs and other enemies to stop the subspace from engulfing the world of Smash Bros. Now I know the actual gameplay wasn't original but it was still fun. The only part i hated was the Maze part near the end. Next you can go to the stadium, which gives you the option of Multiman Brawl, where you fight multiple enemies at once, Home Run Contest, where you can hit sand bag as far as you can with a bat, Break the Targets, where you break targets, and finally, the Boss Battles, where you fought through the bosses from Subspace. I hated that. If you lost it was all over. These bosses are tough. Especially when you only have one life. Finally there's All Star Mode. You choose a character and fight all playable characters. This wasn't that bad.
For single player mode i give a 10/10 It would have been a 9 but subspace kept it a ten.
Now multiplayer mode. This was the least changed mode in the game. Basically the same thing but with two added things. The rotation battle, lets more than four people play by switching the controllers with whomever loses or wins. This way people don't fight over who gets to play. The second thing is the special brawl. This is a variation of the special Melee that was in Super Smash Bros Melee. You pick fun add ons and fight. Other than that multiplayer mode hasn't changed. You pick your character and pick the stage and fight. I'm glad they didn't change it.
my rating 10/10
Vault: This is where you can either make stages, (which sucked...) play the new coin getting game, view your trophies, view your stickers, and view your challenges. Challenges are little glass cases that when you complete the requirements, will give you special prizes. This was a very cool addition but the whole making stage thing was really bad. Nintendo could have done a lot better with that.. There was barely anything to make anything good.
My rating 9/10
Thus ending the game modes...
Now we get the the sound. The music was amazing. They let you choose what you wanted to play on any specific stage and the choices were fantastic. Many famous nintendo themes were either added or remixed to make the fight seem more epic. The sound was crystal clear. At least on my tv.
my rating 10/10
Now for the graphics. See everyone is sketchy on this but i think they were great graphics. If you look at Super Smash Bros. You couldn't even see Mario's fingers. Now we can see the stitching on his overalls. They may not have been the best but they were still amazing.
my rating 10/10
Now for the items: They really went overboard with these. The best addition though is the Smash Ball which unleashes a characters Final Smash. This is their ultimate move that will almost indefinitely knock your opponent off the stage. You use it by pressing the special move button. Other items are used either to protect yourself, like the badge the reflects projectiles. They also brought back the bumper which, depending on how it is used, can be helpful or just plain annoying. Pokeballs are still here filled with new and old pokemon that will help you. Well all will help you except goldeen and wobufet. The hammer is back and with it comes the new golden hammer. This hammer is the king and will kcock someone off in one hit. The items were great on this. Especially the Smash Ball.
My rating 10/10
in conclusion Brawl is a game that everyone should at least try. It a great stress reliever and fun to play with friends. Its one of my top favorite games and fighters. All in all its an amazing game.
overall rating 99/100
